My family surname is Workman. As a child, I was told a story that my ancestors from England started out with the name Wortman and when they came to America, the name was changed to Workman to make it easier to pronounce. I am not sure if this any of the truth and I am not certain as to much of my past. I do know that my paternal grandfather,Joseph S. Workman, who will be 95 years old in November of 2004 grew up near Indianapolis, IN with a family by the name of White. Stories have it that he was an "orphan" and was placed with the White family who never adopted him. Anyone know anything about this or heard anything like this?
